Originating in the USA in 1982, the Credit Union Development Education (DE) program was introduced to Australia in 1991.
ACCU delivers the Credit Union Development Education (DE) program for the Asian region three times a year (generally February, June and November).
The DE program equips participants with a strong understanding of cooperative and mutuality principles, credit union philosophy and international development issues, while addressing the evolving challenges faced by mutuals.
Participants from across the Asia-Pacific region graduate the program as certified Development Educators (DEs), committing their time to promote cooperative values within their communities and beyond.
The intended learning outcomes of the DE program are to:
“[We] are definitely different people since returning to Australia after completing the DE Program in Bangkok….more confident, knowledgeable, appreciative and enthusiastic. As certified Development Educators, we are committed to sharing and instilling cooperative and credit union values to everyone.”
Paul Rosta – Australian Mutual Bank
“The sessions on High Road Leadership and Future Ready Leadership also had a profound impact on me. They reinforced that our people are our greatest asset. These sessions were thought-provoking and encouraged deep reflection on what truly matters and how we can improve and make an impact…”
Tegan Edmonds – Regional Australia Bank
“Overall, the DE Course was inspiring and transformative. It helped bridge the gap between my banking background and the cooperative philosophy, giving me a clearer sense of purpose in the credit union movement…”
